Aftercare

Regular Aftercare (no derma-shield )

Thank you for trusting Ohana Tattoo Company with your new ink! Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully. Please follow the instructions below based on the type of aftercare your artist recommends.

First 4 hours after getting Tattooed:

-Remove the plastic wrap your artist has applied.
-Wash your hands
thoroughly.
-Gently wash your tattoo with liquid fragrance free soap (e.g. Dial, Dove, or Cetaphil).
-Pat dry your tattoo with a clean towel.
-Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion. (e.g. Curel, Aveeno, Eucerine, or Lubriderm).

First Three Days:
Your tattoo with secrete fluid with some blood. This is a normal occurrence that happens when you break open the skin.

-Wash your tattoo twice a day (morning and night)

-Apply lotion as needed throughout the day( usually it's about twice a day in the first 4 days)

-Avoid exposing your tattoo to any bacteria; To be albe to do this be mindful and aware of what is coming into contact with your tattoo.

-Some example depending on the placement of the tattoo could be but not limited to: Dirty water(washing the dishes), public table tops and railings, dirty clothing, dirty sheets, pet dander, dusty chairs or car seats, public seating, the beach and ocean, hot tubs, saunas, gym equipment and excessive sweating etc. your tattoo in the first three days is still open and susceptible to these factors. Do not wrap your tattoo in plastic to try and avoid bacteria, this can also cause the tattoo to heal improperly and further the risk to exposure of bacteria and infection.

   Over the next 1-3 weeks:

-After three days your tattoo will start to harden over and create a natural barrier from bacteria, but it is still not safe from water ,saunas, exercise or sun.

-Washing your tattoo can go down to once a day with your normal routine.

-Continue to apply lotion with, clean hands, whenever it feel dry or tight.

-The tattoo will start to peel in a 1-2 weeks after the session date. The entire peeling process should take roughly two weeks to complete. You will notice a “shiny stage” after peeling and this is normal.
- Your skin should be back to it’s normal skin texture and matte in 2-4 weeks, from the session date. (Touch-ups can be determined once the tattoo is fully healed.)

-For best results and after the tattoo is completely healed:  lotion once a day and use sun screen. Do not use sun screen on a fresh tattoo.

NOTE: ! Some of our artists will require you to do something slightly different than what this after-care states based on the level of work you got done. There are different needs for because particular styles requiring different maintenance. This is an overall safe, fall back if you are unsure. You need to always contact your artist, directly, with questions if there are special aftercare needs!

Derma-Sheild Aftercare :

You can still shower with the derma shield.
Avoid: excessive sweating, excessive sun exposure and submerging yourself in water.

Directions:
Removal (After 5-7 Days)

-Take derma-shield off by peeling back a corner, slowly and with the assistance of a fragrance free soap with water (best place to do this is the shower).
-Do not remove briskly or dry. Your skin is still very thin under the plastic. It will be somewhat uncomfortable so going slowly and with soap will help that discomfort.
-After the derma-shield is removed , wash your tattoo with a fragrance free soap and dry with a clean towel .

-Wash once a day and apply lotion as needed until your skin is back to its normal skin texture and matte.

Things that you needs to know while wearing derma-shield:

-Plasma and some blood secretion happens during a tattoo, this is a normal bodily function your body does to form a scab.Having dermal shield on will not prevent secretion from happening. That plasma is your body’s own white blood cells that will help new tissue to form while wearing the derma-shield.
-You might notice some plasma mixed with ink and some blood collecting under the  plastic. Do not be alarmed by this fluid sack. Though this isn’t the most pleasant sight, it is actually helping your tattoo to heal properly. That fluid will be reabsorbed back into the body and when you take your dermal shield off in five days.

-While wearing the derma-shield you still need to avoid  submerging yourself in water, saunas, and excessive sweating. You can take showers while wearing the derma shield.
